Luomuduo (direct translation: “Organic Duo”) is a lively Finnish folk music duo performing traditional Finnish, Swedish, and Irish folk pieces. During this band photography shoot, my goal was to create scenic pictures and a music video with a healthy dose of humor.

We took the photos in a field in summertime, with the goal of getting pictures that would be as organic as possible.

]]> Adam Gordon Herd is an Australian pianist/arranger/composer living in Helsinki. He wanted some new epic artist portraits to coincide with the launch of his website. We came up with the idea of carrying an old upright piano into the woods and into a swamp to get some photos that are not your traditional classical musician pictures. The old tiffany-style lamp in some of the photos was lit using a flash with orange gels attached–no electricity required! The whole process required a lot of lifting and getting our feet wet, but I would say it was definitely worth it for the resulting unique photographs of a talented musician.

]]> Three of Finland’s largest student organizations, SAMOK (Suomen opiskelijakuntien liitto), SYL (Suomen ylioppilaskuntien liitto), and OLL (Opiskelijoiden liikuntaliitto) needed business portraits, headshots and group photos of their newest employees. Since the photos had to be taken in the winter, we decided to utilise Oodi, Helsinki’s new library, which provided a good variety of backgrounds for professional portraits.

During the Girls Takeover campaign, the girls who take part in the program manage key roles in the corporate and public sector for one day. The campaign received significant national and international media coverage. Plan needed empowering portraits of the girls who participated in the campaign, and we set up an outdoor shoot in a newly built area in Helsinki.

]]> This client requested corporate headshots for their team in Helsinki with a variety of backgrounds, all taken in the same open office space. After an initial meeting, we decided on three lighting setups in front of three different backgrounds. For backgrounds, we used:

  • A grey backdrop
  • A slatted wood wall background
  • A hallway in front of a meeting room

Each subject had 15 minutes of shoot time, and we took a variety of poses in each spot. After the shoot the subjects were able to choose their favorite photos to be edited from an online gallery.

This was a great opportunity for the client to provide employees with a variety of corporate headshots that they can use professionally and personally for the foreseeable future. We also had hair and makeup artists on hand to ensure that the resulting photos would need minimal touchup.
